In a Series First, One Contestant Will Enter the BIG BROTHER House With One Goal: To Secretly Wreak Havoc on Their Fellow Contestants.

Fans will Provide Unprecedented Influence over the Game as the “Saboteur” Receives Their Suggested Tasks Directly from the Audience.

The producers of BIG BROTHER are implementing a major twist for this season’s batch of Houseguests that will top all past seasons. One Houseguest, known as the Big Brother Saboteur, will enter the house to play their own game, unbeknownst to their fellow competitors. The Saboteur’s mission will be to carry out viewer suggestions on how best to disrupt the lives of fellow players.

Upon moving into the house on premiere night, Houseguests will discover that one of them is not really there to win the game, but rather to sabotage their fellow players. While the saboteur’s identity will remain a secret to the Houseguests, America will learn his/her identity on Thursday, July 15, during the first LIVE show. At that time, fans can begin offering suggestions for how the saboteur should disrupt the game. The longer the saboteur is able to maintain their anonymity while carrying out their fan-inspired sabotage, the more financially rewarding it will be for them. BIG BROTHER follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with over 52 cameras and 95 microphones, recording their every move 24 hours-a-day. Each week, the Houseguests will vote someone out of the house. At the end, the last remaining Houseguest will receive the grand prize of $500,000.

The summer reality hit BIG BROTHER premieres Thursday, July 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The new cast will be announced at a later date.

BIG BROTHER will be broadcast three nights per week: Wednesdays, (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT, beginning July 14); the LIVE eviction show hosted by Julie Chen on Thursdays (8:00-9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT, beginning July 15) and Sundays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT, beginning July 11).

Last summer’s edition saw BIG BROTHER grow its audience both on-air and online for the CBS Television Network and CBS Interactive platforms.

Last year’s edition of BIG BROTHER was one of only a handful of programs ever to post growth in its tenth season. Compared to the prior year’s edition, BIG BROTHER was up +7% in viewers (7.08m from 6.60m), +4% in adults 18-49 (2.5/08 from 2.4/07) and +5% in adults 18-34 (2.0/07 from 1.9/06). Each of the three weekly broadcasts also posted summer-to-summer growth.

Online, BIG BROTHER was the last summer’s #1 show on CBS.com and across the CBS Audience Network in all key metrics, with 25 percent more unique users and 94% more video streams than the prior summer.

“The crushed fans of the BB11’s Jessie eviction.

I want to start by explaining that as crushed as I am, there are 80-100 other fans just as crushed. Being a big brother fan, it’s hard to explain the excitement of thinking you’re going to be included in a live show as many don’t have the ablility to do so. Some go through huge lengths to make it to such a show, such as flying across the country, putting their jobs at jeopardy, or even financial hardship. To non fans, of course this sounds crazy. “Your problem to love something so silly to take such risks, your nuts!” But I don’t think I need to explain this any further to true fans.

At the beginning of this season, my one and only goal (besides just enjoying the season) was to make it to a show. I soon found out (through my favorite hang out, thebigbrotherklub.) that there was new site to request tickets from this year. The process was actually pretty simple. Register for the waiting list, wait for an e-mail announcing the release of tickets, and then signing up for them. The trick is noticing this e-mail before the dates (in which they send out 4 at a time) are full. The first set I was (with my luck) day late, a dollar short. No biggy, my fault. Since then I’ve made it a point to make sure I checked my e-mail on a regular basis. So last Thursday, (the Ronnie evection) as the show started, it hit me, “check your mail!” BAM! There it was, the golden ticket for the 13th, and un full! Upon printing this ticket, I danced, screamed, called my friends, and posted all over the klub. (while the current showing was paused of course) cloud nine! Ronnie gone, Jeff got the power! And I was going to the show the very next week to watch it all unfold. The next week included tires on my car, a major tune up, re arranging my days off, setting up a baby sitter for the kids, and buying a new attire to wear. (again, Im sure some went through much more, this is just my experience).”

I cannot help but think back to Big Brother 6. Not only did we have the “Summer of Secrets” with each houseguest having a secret partner (how long did that “secret” last?), we had the newly remodeled house which changed the way the game was played drastically. Now, the houseguests had plenty of space away from each other to openly talk about the game, but more importantly, each other. This season also brought us the “Nerd Herd” and drew a distinct line in the sand between the participants and the alliances they formed early on. The vile, personal, non-gameplay related comments said about each other grew to a fever pitch during Season 6. Prior to Season 6, the game had to be played much differently. In secret. Dr. Will, Danielle and Jason, Jun and Allison… Remember?

Are they casting different people now? Perhaps. It seems more and more cast members have been “discovered” rather than just the regular Joe or Jane sending in a video and an application. Casting scouts found Russel in a bar this year for example. Or maybe we just didn’t know about early seasons’ cast discoveries because they were not talked about as much. Who knows? Fans have been crying foul for CBS casting people who have never seen the show before, but maybe that’s not such a bad thing after all. If a fan who loves the show is applying and has seen the strategies of the previously mentioned Dr. Will and Danielle, would that make them play the game differently? They certainly wouldn’t try to mimic their actions. Or at least I would hope not. I think what makes this confusing is that they now mix fans who have applied over and over with people who have never seen the show before and had no intention of applying. That’s not to say they weren’t already “models” or “actors” or have not applied to other reality shows to try and obtain that elusive fifteen. This is just another aspect of how the game has changed over the years.

This brings me to Big Brother’s fans and especially the Internet fan base. I have always thought it was the show that was the problem. Indeed it is partly to blame, but it is also my opinion that along with Big Brother 6, not only did the show change, I have come to realize this is when the fans also changed. It seems to me during the good old days of Big Brother, the fans would kick back on their respective forums and chat rooms and wax philosophically about the houseguests and their gameplay. We cheered on good strategic moves no matter who the houseguest. We applauded lying and scheming. We yearned for it. With Big Brother 6, once the houseguests split and it was Nerd Herd versus the ever-so-mighty Janelle, Kaysar, Howie et al, that was it. Lines were drawn. When Ivette said something horrible about one of the “good guys,” fans went nuts! We couldn’t wait for Janelle to win HOH. When she did, the Internet was atomic!

What I did not realize at the time was that Janelle and Howie (and company) were saying some pretty mean things as well. Remember Howie’s rant on April? Wow. Extremely mean, yet we applauded him and could not wait for the next blow up. Last night on the live show Casey said horrible things about Jessie and it was perceived by some as a victory.

What I’m getting at here, albeit winded, is that the fans can be just as hypocritical as the houseguests. We tend to pick a favorite or two right from the get go and latch on. The mob mentality kicks in on Internet chat rooms and forums. If something is said behind their backs, that makes the other team “evil” and we give them horrible nicknames and trash talk them until the cows come home. If our player or team says something mean about the others, we scream, holler and applaud. What looks like a poor sport or whiney speech on a live show (Chima) can look like the ultimate victory (Casey, Chelsia). This is thoroughly frustrating for fans of the folks receiving the brunt of the mob’s rage. They are not able to post anything in support of them without the Internet groupies jumping all over the poor people like flies

I’ll preface this by saying I am not a Ronnie fan and I do think he played the game way too hard and way too fast, but what atrocious and appalling things has he done really? Is it because he is a “dork” in your eyes? Is it because he lied and deceived? Isn’t that what this game entails? Would it be possible to win without lying at all? Or maybe it’s because he lied to the wrong “side” and is aligned with Jessie? That’s fine, but does he deserve the hate the Internet is spewing at him?

Jessie can be an ultimate douche sometimes, but he is playing the game well, no? Maybe calling him a “douche” was an awfully hypocritical thing to say, but I feel that yes, I can call Jessie a douche because I have spoke with him personally and he doesn’t really count since he’s been on the show before and shouldn’t be there now. See paragraph 1.

All I am saying is please take a deep breath, step back and enjoy the gameplay. It’s OK to have a favorite or two, for sure! Enjoy! Have fun! If someone’s opinion differs from yours, that’s fine. Take what they say and at least try to understand maybe why they like that houseguest or alliance. Or maybe they are just rooting for a scenario that would cause unrest in the house to break the monotony, not necessarily a cast member. Just be sure when you are bad mouthing a HG (or another fan) and rooting for another, don’t be blind to what your favorites are doing within the game also. It may just be the exact same things for which you hate someone else.

The viewers were out in huge numbers for the show last year and I don’t see any reason why that would change.

“Hi friends,

It’s been a real interesting year. As most of you know, I had a small role in Desperate Housewives this week, and my Law and Order episode is rerun a lot. I’m at the Newport Beach Film Festival this week where my film The Angel is screening. If you haven‘t had a chance to see it, it features me doing a lot of wire-work like in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and I’m extremely proud of it.

I’m currently looking for help with a new project. It’s an amazing feature length movie I’m trying to produce but have hit several barriers. The script is from Paul Hough who did the award-winning Angel – he is also directing this – and he has managed to get a guarantee in writing for coverage in Fangoria Magazine (its a super cool horror movie in which I would get to play the most unique killer ever seen!) I’m writing because I’m looking for help and looking for people who might want to get involved.

I am producing it along with Paul, but I am looking for others who might be able to contribute in some way. Most important right now is the fundraising. We have a budget of $77,000 and I’m looking for anyone who might want to get involved in the financing – essentially someone who would like to be a Producer – or someone who might have access to private financing. All ideas and suggestions are welcomed.
